A boldly engraved and very attractive example of Jodocus Hondius' map of the entire Middle East. Arabia is shown in good detail with an empty, but mountainous, interior. The map's title is set in a large strap-work cartouche topped by a portrait of Sultan Mahumet. This map is one of the series created by Hondius for the 1606 continuation of the "Atlas" series conceived by Gerard Mercator and was used until replaced around 1635. Of additional interest is the reference to the "Mare Elcatif olim Sinus Arabicus, one of the few early maps to use the name.
