An unusual double portrait of two significant characters in the history of the Civil War set in a page of text describing Ralph Hopton, (portrait in top left) 1st Baron Hopton, (1596 – 28 September 1652), an English politician, soldier and landowner. During the 1642 to 1646 First English Civil War, he served as Royalist commander in the West Country, and was made Baron Hopton of Stratton in 1643. In top right is Sir Bevill Granville - (died 1706) an English soldier who served as Governor of Pendennis Castle in Cornwall and as Governor of Barbados.
