About Jonathan Potter Ltd

Jonathan Potter Limited has existed as a trading concern since 1974 when Jonathan, having been a teenage collector, decided to turn his enthusiasm and a little knowledge of old maps into a career.  Since then the business has developed to become one of the world’s best known and respected dealerships with a clientele of many thousands of collectors, decorators and occasional buyers as well as many of the world’s major institutions and libraries.

Although maps and atlases may sell for many tens, or even hundreds, of thousands of pounds, the business has always been conscious that many major collectors start by purchasing less expensive items.  Customers at all levels are catered for and encouraged at Jonathan Potter Limited.   We have always believed that the maps, with good catalogue descriptions, stand on their own and need no forceful salesperson to persuade their purchase.  However, our enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff are always on hand to provide further information or detail, if required.

We claim no credit for offering our own “product”, instead we see ourselves as collector/curators making available the cartographic output of a bygone age.  Many of the maps on offer are fascinating combinations of science and art – the science and discipline of cartography presented in an aesthetically pleasing form.

For the past thirty years Jonathan Potter Limited has been based in central London, one of the world’s major centres of the art, antique and antiquarian book trades.  Our gallery, on the first floor of one of Bond Street’s older buildings, is open every weekday from 10am to 6pm.  As long-term members of the Antiquarian Booksellers’ Association and British Antique Dealers’ Association we regularly exhibit at Book, Map and Antique Fairs in Britain and the United States – see our events page for further details.

Please see our terms and conditions for further information on purchasing and shipping costs.

We can offer a framing service for local clients, valuation services and, of course, we are always interested in purchasing stock.

Whether your interest is in starting a collection, just buying one map for home, office, or as a gift, we look forward to hearing from you.  Contact us.
