Texas

A good example of a scarce, slightly reduced-size, reissue of John Arrowsmith's famous and important map of Texas. Arrowsmith's map was the best of the period and provided a clear outline of the Republic's claim to regions of the upper Rio Grande. Arrowsmith's map appeared in 1841 and the prompt publication of this German edition is indicative of European and, particularly German, interest in the political situation of an area with great potential for emigrant settlement. Of added interest is the early use of printed colour for the sea area. An inset plan of Galveston Bay appears at lower left and a numbered key is given in the upper right corner.
