A most interesting map of the world on two separate sheets engraved by Heinricus Irsingerus, whose signature appears in the lower right corner of each sheet. The map did not originally appear in Shirley's "Mapping of the World" - perhaps an indication of its rarity, but has since been recorded. California is shown as an island and detail of the north-western coast is scant. A partial outline of Australia is given and shows the mainland joined to Papua New Guinea. Around the hemispheres are allegorical figures representing each of the continents in traditional dress.
