Quarto. Engraved Tp with blank verso, Tp with blank verso, pp.24, Tp with blank verso, pp.[vi], pp.48, pp.[xxii], pp.32 with four copperplate engraved maps of Middlesex, London, Westminster and Hertfordshire. Contemporary speckled calf gilt. Printed in London for Daniel Browne and James Woodman as detailed on the title-page printed in both red and black ink. The title-page also states the maps were engraved by Mr Senex, a re-engraving of John Norden's 1593 original by Pieter Van Den Keere. This example also contains a contemporary manuscript note on the flyleaf entitled, "A Note Concerning [the Author of this Book] Mr Norden". Dedications contained within are to Elizabeth I and Sir William Cecill Knight, Baron Burghleigh. Norden had intended to complete a series of county histories but only Middlesex (1593) and Hertfordshire (1598) were completed during his lifetime. This posthumous edition of 1723 combines the two in neat and attractive form, here with library blind stamps.
