An attractive example of one of the best known maps of the island from John Speed's "Prospect Of The Most Famous Parts Of The World". The map shows clearly the division of the island into "tribes" and lists below the proprietors. To the sides are the arms of Bermuda and Britain. The detail of the map is taken from Richard Norwood's map first published in Captain John Smith's "History of Virginia" in 1624, of which this is one of the earliest of many derivatives.
